WAIKATO
Kiri Binnersly
I grew up in Queenstown where my passion for action and adventure sports became a huge part of my life. I was elected to represent New Zealand in both Figure Skating and Snowboarding. It wasnt until age fourteen when on summer holidays in Mount Maungnaui where I learnt to surf. I absolutely loved the feeling of being on a wave, from that point I was hooked, and ended up becoming a surf instructor from the age of fifteen. Whenever I went to Mount Maunganui over the school holidays I would teach surfing.
I have just recently graduated as a Chiropractor, and I am currently working in Hamilton but live in Raglan. I am very grateful and appreciative of being apart of the AWSA and its efforts to promote equality in surfing.

Hey I’m Ruby, founder and content creator for The Surf Box. I’m a 26 year old, surfing and fitness enthusiast, who grew up in Raglan. I spend most of my time here, but travel often to find the next best wave and adventure.
I have worked as a surf coach for the past 8 years, spending time pursuing this cause all over the world, where I spent significant time in Central America working solely with Women wanting to take their surfing to the next level.
My passion for surfing, the human body and people led me to complete my bachelor’s degrees in both sport, movement and human performance and in teaching pedagogy.
I started The Surf Box not just as a way to transfer my skills and experience, but also as a way to build up and connect with a community of like-minded people. Life for me is about connection, and I simply cannot think of a better way to connect than through the sport, my passion, of surfing.
